It seems that as the environmental threats to the world keep on increasing with each passing day, people all around the world are slowly but steadily becoming aware of how their activities might be increasing the speed of global destruction. This, thankfully, is driving scientists, researchers, IT people and people in general towards thinking of ways to bring a little slowdown to the eventual “predicted” end.

Adding to the league of innovations such as Blackle, the energy saving search engine by Google, another creative idea is evolving. Termed as “Green Technology”, this idea is more of a concept rather than a product.

Abbreviated as “Greentech” Green Technology is a group of methods and materials that range from techniques for generating energy to non-toxic cleaning of products. This field is expected to bring an effect of the same magnitude in daily life as “information technology” has done over the last two decades.

The goals that have been outlined to be achieved from this field include:

• Developing products using today’s resources in a way that won’t deplete or damage them and would in the same way be usable by future generations.

• Developing alternatives to technologies that have over time damaged health and environment.

• Changing patterns of production and consumption in a manner so as to reduce waste and pollution.

• Creating fully reusable products.

In these early stages, it is impossible to predict what “green technology” revolution may eventually accomplish. But nevertheless, significant efforts have been initiated by premier organizations around the world to give it a wonderful start.

For instance, CISCO, in a joint effort with China’s Tsinghua University, has opened a Research and Development Laboratory, as a part of CISCO’s multi-year sustainability and innovation commitment in that country. It intends to allocate 1 billion dollars of the total 16 billion dollar investment commitment, which was announced in November 2007, to support this new model.

Similarly, with rising energy costs, many businesses have now started reaping the benefits of green technology to make their wastage minimum as well as reduce their carbon footprint.

Certain groups, including green anarchists, have criticized this and other related technologies which fall under the collective name of ‘environmental technology’. According to their point of view, technology requires the exploitation of the environment through the extraction as well as creation of resources, and the usage of human labor by way of specialization and division of labor. It is argued, that there is no “neutral” form of technology, as things are always created with a particular purpose, goals and functions. Thus, green technology is rejected as an attempt to reform this system by merely changing its outer appearance and making it seem environment friendly, in spite of unbearable levels of human and natural exploitation.

In the first week of May 2009, Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO of Amazon, has introduced the latest version of the e-reader, names as Amazon Kindle.
Kindle DX is the third edition of e-reader which is released just after 3 month of kindle 2.
This time Amazon has introduced some more features with new look in Kindle DX. This version of Kindle DX has a 9.7” diagonal e-link screen that looks like a real paper, that is about 60% larger then the previous versions. It can display 16 shades of grey with 1200×824 pixel resolution screen. Its 3G wireless technology lets you download books from your kindle DX without any monthly or annual fee. Continue with the technical specification, it provide with a long battery life so that you can read for the days without recharging it. Microsoft has finally released Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista so there will be additional incentive for people to upgrade to Windows Vista now, instead of waiting for Windows 7. Incidentally, this service pack also applies to Windows Server 2008. It upgrades Windows Server 2008 to Release 2. Plus, it has been designed to make it simpler for IT professionals to deploy the OS. Vista SP2 includes all security updates and hotfixes released since Vista service pack 1.

The last Vista Service Pack was released in March last year and according to Microsoft, Vista SP1 is required in order to install SP2. They also indicate that it might take about an hour to install the 348.3 MB update, and after completing the update some hardware(like the sound card) might not work until updated drivers are installed. If you have installed the beta version of SP2, it will need to be uinstalled.

The new Service Pack has the following updates:

– It includes updates to the RSS feeds sidebar for better performance and responsiveness.

– SP2 includes ability to capture data to Blu-Ray Disc media.

– It improves performance for Wi-Fi connections after resuming from hibernation.

– SP2 integrates the Windows Vista Feature Pack for Wireless, which contains support for Bluetooth v2.1 and Windows Connect Now (WCN) Wi-Fi Configuration.

(Bluetooth v2.1 is the most recent specification for Bluetooth wireless technology)

– It adds support for the 64-bit CPU from VIA Technologies, which adds the identity and supplier strings for the new VIA 64-bit CPU.

– The update also includes Windows Search 4.0, which is the latest version of Microsoft’s desktop search client.

Another important thing to note is that the beta version of the Service Pack is time limited and will expire on 1st June 2010.

 Fujitsu Ltd, Japanese firm unveiled fastest CPU capable of performing 128 billion operations per second, with more than twice the speed of the current leader. Fujitsu development has overtaken some of the world’s biggest information technology companies including Intel Corp. and IBM Corp., in terms of CPU speed.
 This little and lavishing prototype is ably named as “Venus” which seems to be much more beautiful than its technical family name “SPARC64 VIIIfx”.

 Fujitsu’s eight-core SPARC64 VIIIfx Venus CPU has a calculated speed of about 2.5-times faster than the previous record-holding model, which was made by Intel. The prototype is smaller in size and also energy-efficient. It is able to cut power consumption to one-third of the conventional Fujitsu model. Fujitsu took the advantage for tendency towards building and manufacturing smaller-scale products due to the desire for size efficiency by doubling the central circuit per chips measuring about 2cm from four to eight.

 Venus promises several implications for the technology earthquake prediction, weather prediction, new drug development and many more scientific researches. It is been predicted that if Venus is to be Used in personal Computer and digital electronic appliances, it could lead to the development of equipment such as portable Translation devices and automated driving devices for cars.

 The Venus is proposed to be used at Institute of Physical and Chemical Science next-generation supercomputer and which would continue with its operation till 2010. It will take several years for Fujitsu to come up with the practical applications of Venus.
